Just finished this project last week: Zigpoll - Embeddable polls for any website. Would love feedback!
  • Wow this seems pretty comprehensive.

I absolutely love the implementation of this. It's extremely streamlined and actually enjoyable to interact with, very impressive.

  • This is really nice but very expensive once the number of requests gets large ($1 per 1k requests). Charging $100/month for a large plan is fine, but the large plan should be millions of requests rather than 100k, with the intermediate plans similarly increased. I'd suggest having fewer sizes ($10, $25, $50, $100, and "enterprise, contact us") and possibly replacing the free plan with a 1 month $1 trial plan. Free plans are usually way too much trouble to support for their low conversion rates to be worth it.

  • I see where you're coming from. I guess my thoughts are:

    1. You probably wont have the embed on every page. In fact it's more likely you only have it on like 1/10 of all your pages at the most. You only get charged when a poll shows up, so between that and repeat visitors who fill out the poll you're rarely in a situation where all your traffic is billable.

    2. If you have > 1 Million requests to your site per month, you're probably willing to get on board with an enterprise plan > $100 per month. But maybe I'm off base here- I don't have any sites w/ that kind of traffic.

In any case if you have any other feedback feel free to hit me up whenever: [email protected]

    Thanks!

  • 1M/month is nothing, it's just 30k a day or so. I hang out on what I think are some midsized forums, that get 10x that much. I think someone said Hacker News gets 600k/day. It wouldn't surprise me if ieddit (the site were are on) is getting 30k/day already and it's only been up a week and is running on a small VM. The idea is to keep pricing low enough to tilt the user's build-vs-buy decision towards "buy", so the big plans should be for big sites with big budgets.

Anyway I'm a low-budget user so maybe I'm outside the audience, but that's my take. Cloudflare Workers is 50 cents per million requests (plus some extra for their KV store) so 2000x that amount seems steep. $10 or $25/month to avoid the hassle of self-hosting is one thing but $1000+ per year makes me hesitate.

  • There were approx 500k requests from 1 day of being on the front page of HN, if that gives you an idea.
